What Is Spinal Traction?
Spinal traction is a therapeutic technique that uses either manual or mechanical forces to gently stretch and mobilize the spine. This stretching helps relieve back pain by loosening tight spinal muscles caused by spasms. Additionally, spinal traction widens the spaces between vertebrae, called the intervertebral foramina, which can reduce nerve root compression and alleviate both back pain and radiating pain.

Every patient’s condition is unique, and what works well for one person may not be as effective for another. That’s why a thorough evaluation is conducted before starting spinal traction treatment. This assessment allows the chiropractor or physical therapist to determine the most appropriate type of traction, the amount of force or weight to apply, and the duration of treatment tailored to each individual’s needs.
